Ok, so to kick off this one week challenge idea I thought I’d start with something really simple – an endless runner. Well I hope it’s really simple at least, I’ve never actually tried building one before. I know that there are lots of tutorials out there for something like this, but as much as possible I’d like to stay away from using them. I’d kinda like to see how much of this I can do on my own. I realise that this may not always lead to the greatest solutions, but I also don’t feel that copying someone else’s code is the best way to learn.
So anyway, on to the challenge. I’ll be building a really simple 2D endless runner. There’ll be some obstacles, you’ll need to jump over them, if you hit them you die. I’ve never tried building something which requires an endless stage and obstacles so tackling that issue should be interesting. I feel like I have a few ideas surrounding it, but I’ll need to see if this actually ends up working in practice.
Delivery date will be next week Monday at roughly this time, unless of course I manage to finish before then. I’ll most likely do a midweek post as a progress report. As this is the first one of these I’m not really sure which format works best, but rest assured, the process will be refined as we go along.
I’ll be back with an update soon. Time to get coding.
