When I first started playing around with Unity, I made a lot of little prototypes. Most of these were admittedly quite bad and lacking any direction, but it really was a great learning experience as well. Looking back on these a while ago I came across Cops and Robbers, a 2d physics based driving game that I had been working on. The idea was simple, you had just robbed a bank and you were now trying to escape the cops. The aim was to get as far as possible before they caught you. Now this was my first real effort at making a complete game. It was ultimately misguided in certain areas but I did also have quite a few successes with it.
While playing through it a bit I thought that it might be cool to revisit it and try to get it to a completed state from where it currently is. There is still quite a bit of development to do in many areas, so I plan to document the process on this website. I’ll be uploading the game in its current state and I will upload updates as development goes along. I’m going to aim for weekly updates. I’ll potentially set a goal for the week and try to complete it.
So where do I start. Well, at one point in my life I thought that making mobile games would be the best thing ever. I have of course since seen the light and I’m no longer willing to walk that dark path. My point is that I started developing this as a mobile game, so the first order of business before uploading version 1 is to strip out the mobile stuff and get some pc controls in. I’ve got quite a bit of free time on my hands today so I should have this done by later this afternoon. Time to get cracking.
